On February 12th, 2022, AnimalBot99 got a chance to talk with SBTechh!
Animal: Hello SB, why don’t we begin with what do you do on Roblox?
SB: At the moment, I am a contributor for the Roblox music group CB’s Music. I was working alongside Animal to rebrand his group and build a showcase for his music and developer talent. On top of that, I am a Studio Manager for TPG Productions (TomPlayzGamz Productions), where I am in-charge of managing our up-coming YouTube news program, The Roblox Live Show hosted by DigitalBloxed.
Animal: So, if I remember correctly, you once mentioned to me you actually worked in a news studio in real life; how was that and what were the daily tasks like?
SB: Well it was more casual work if anything, the studio is always busy (and has to be for a live broadcast, not to mention any breaking news that could arise), but it was more or less getting a grasp on how everything worked, helping around and stuff like that.
Animal: Are you hoping to use the real life experience and apply it to a virtual news show?
SB: Oh most definitely, I believe that for anything to work, you need to have a clear idea for what you want. That is why when working with TomPlayzGamz, I explain all my background knowledge to make sure that he knows the clearest way to pursue the direction of The Roblox Live Show.
Animal: So I’ve seen that you also left out another group you are part of, the 2D Entertainment. It’s been going since 2017, what is the group’s objective and has it reached the amount of success you’ve hoped for with it?
SB: Well when me and another friend founded 2D Entertainment back around 4 years ago. Our original intent was to create games that would captivate an audience with originality, unfortunately, due to my other duties at another group I worked at Roblox Live, I never found real time to work on any projects that we had. Now that I’m working at 2 groups, CB Music and TPG Productions, I don’t have much room to fit working on a new game so it’s kind of been pushed to the sidelines for now.
Animal: You keep leaving out the fact that you can do GFX, do you do commissions or plan on doing them?
SB: I do love doing GFX, but I don’t plan on doing commissions anytime soon, I feel that I work best doing something I have a passion for and my head is in the game, like The Roblox Live Show for example.
Animal: What do you hope to get out of the Roblox Live show in terms of experience (or compensation)?
SB: Well, I hope for our passion project to become at least a partial success for all the hard work we’ve been putting into it, particularly my fellow friends/co-workers: Yor_ick, Sorevix, you of course, and TomPlayzGamz.
Animal: It’s the whole, or mostly, Roblox Live crew again. What did you think of RL with your time being there?
SB: Yeah well my time at Roblox Live was great fun, but I never thought in a millions year that I’d be working so closely with two of the original members Tom and Animal, we’re more like very good friends, more than coworkers that we used to be at Roblox Live and I’m thrilled that I’ve gotten to work there for so long. In terms of working at Roblox Live, well it was great fun, getting to see all your work pay off and coming into the hangout for the streams… ah… it was too good to be true.
Animal: At the height of RL, did you think it was going to last forever or was the downfall to it a surprise?
SB: Well I was certainly hoping it would last forever, but I think we all knew after The Next Level stopped streaming that things were never going to be the same, and that’s the sad reality, we tried to promote the hangout to others streamers with large audiences but… yeah, it didn’t work out but I believe that hangout does represent the old fun times that we all used to have on the Roblox platform.
Animal: Ah true, everything good must come to an end at some point. So between your short tenure at RL, upcoming RL Show production, CB Music builder, GFX artist, what would you say is your favorite thing to do?
SB: Ah, so hard to pick, they’ve all been so different and fun to work on. At the moment (and in my own biased opinion), probably The Roblox Live Show, which I guess kind of wraps into being a ‘GFX artist,’ but yeah look they’ve all been fun and different so for the moment it would have to be what we are working on right now.
Animal: Do you enjoy short term projects or long term? And which one is more fulfilling to you?
SB: I enjoy projects that manage to capture my interest, so whether that would be short or long term I’m not really sure, but like I said before, what feels more fulfilling to me would be the banter, communication and general feeling of having a good time while trying to make something special.
Animal: Let’s move to random questions time: what is your favorite Roblox game, currently or all-time?
SB: Hmm, well my favorite Roblox game would have to be the 2018 egg hunt, which I know, it’s not a proper game but it left a lasting memory for me and as probably the last best egg hunt ever it really brings back some good memories revisiting it. If I had to choose an actual game though, I would probably have to choose one of the old classics like some of the old building games with the old stamper tools that you would have to click to make blocks and build some pretty cool stuff, like Welcome to Roblox Building.
Animal: Almost two polar opposites in game objective/design. Speaking of the egg hunt though, do you think Roblox’s hands-off approach was well done in recent years as they move to showcasing egg hunts on various games? Or do you think the way 2018 egg hunt showcased user talent was the better option to go?
SB: Well I remember seeing the DevForum post for egg hunts, 2018 was directed to having a group of developers collaborate together and make a polished game, along with Roblox’s direction of course. That overall made it feel more cohesive with the storytelling and theme for the whole event. While in later years when they revisited one of their failed formulas it just would have never worked because there were so many games and developers that making a story for the whole egg hunt would have been sloppy and inconsistent.
Animal: Next random question, what is your favorite accessory on Roblox? (hat, face, front, etc).
SB: My all-time favorite accessory on Roblox would have to be the Epic Face. It was so different to what Roblox was delivering at the time and probably one of the most sought after items in the catalog.
Animal: So, between all your experience you have on and off the platform, what advice would you give to those who wish to get better at GFX, hope to work in a news studio, coordinate broadcasts, help run a big group or just develop their own specific craft?
SB: Well I would say, you’re always going to run into someone who thinks they know better than you, and while they might, always listen to what they have to say, use that, even it’s negative, because in the future if you want to start something big, you’ll have all those small pieces to help drive something positive that will always outweigh the negative.
Animal: Well SB, thank you for your time! Hope to talk to you again soon.
SB: Well in the words of my dear friend Tom, “THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME”
