On December 22nd AnimalBot99 got to interview AceDevArnav. Hope you enjoy reading!
Animal: Hello Arnav, why don’t we begin with what do you do on Roblox?
Arnav: Hello! I am Arnav, and I am an Event Organizer for Roblox!
Animal: So I saw earlier today you had an event where you highlighted multiple developers/games, how did this idea come about?
Arnav: Oh well this was just my second event being in this prestigious role, and I thought what could be a better way to end this amazing year? Giving a shout and promoting a few upcoming studios was really an idea given to me by my event staff members!
Animal: Only second event hosted? What was the first event you ever did and how did you think you did the first time versus the second time?
Arnav: Well the first one was a tutorial or I should say an introduction to members with GFX designing! It was hosted on 15th Nov and it went really well! I had a lot of support from my partners and we could pull up a great show! To be honest, I would prefer the first one over my second one. Reason being I faced a couple of issues today which couldn’t light this up.
Animal: You’ve handled the technical difficulties quite well though with keeping the presentation going on. During the Q&A I saw a lot of questions based around development and commissions; do you develop on Roblox outside of being an event organizer?
Arnav: Well, out of complete professionalism I tried my best to keep the event under control even after facing a couple of issues. The Q/A saved the event, haha. On a serious note, I have been a developer on the platform since Dec 2020. I have contributed over 5M visits and am currently open for commissions over a GFX designer!
Animal: Developer on Roblox since 2020? And 5m visits? I mean, where do I start; how’d you do it?
Arnav: Quite a lot of people are startled on how I happen to be an active EO, developer as well as be a running factor of numerous studios out there. I would say being passionate over what you do is the key. Since the pandemic started, I have tried to learn as much as I could and it was because of my amazing friends that I have achieved all this!
Animal: Did you ever play Roblox before becoming a developer?
Arnav: I started Roblox in 2017, when a couple of my classmates started talking about that. I had lost touch in 2019 since I was deeply involved in a few projects I do outside of this platform. I returned in Dec 2020 after I realized the scope of developing games on Roblox.
Animal: Looking at some of your goals for next year, you have some high hopes of achievements whether it be the development side or event organizer side. Do you think it’ll be easy to balance the two?
Arnav: It is definitely not easy to do that. But if it isn’t hard, it wouldn't be good enough to compete for, eh? I planned out my goals after carefully calculating my growth in the past year and though I know it would be challenging, I am up for it!
Animal: With your more solo career in development I see you have two places on your profile, are they still constantly updated and seeing new players?
Arnav: My personal experiences on my profile are not updated in a regular manner at all. If you check out my groups - most of them are made under DevRel challenges and none are actually considered “projects”. My contributions go under a few games I favorited, or a few groups I have worked under.
Animal: I must ask about this too because I see it on your Twitter and Roblox profile (possibly event organizer bio), you mention you’re a student everywhere. I take it school is very important to you, has it had any impact on your development career?
Arnav: Being a student, balancing things in real life and Roblox was hard at first. My parents and teachers did not realize the scope on this platform and I had a hard time. I cleared out things when I met a couple of developers and started working with them 1-2 hours a day. Slowly, I gained a lot of experience and my parents started to look into the scope of it as well. I still face a number of issues considering exams, but I am glad to have everything controlled.
Animal: It’s a lot easier to work when there’s more people around supporting you?
Arnav: Yes! Having like minds around always helps. I would never have achieved all this without parental support. Keeping in mind my friend circle has always been supportive in my decisions and have helped me take very important decisions in my life.
Animal: Back to event organizing, do you have any upcoming events in mind or are you just waiting until this year ends & taking it slow?
Arnav: I have the “Start small and grow fast” mindset and with that, I think 1 event per event is a good strategy. I do have an event planned for January which I am assuming would be my most successful one. Having over 20+ collaborators on it, I think it would be amazing! It is based on a UGC panel and how UGC applicants struggle in their way through Roblox’s one of the hardest applications - The UGC catalog Creator App.
Animal: Do you want to expand off of that for anyone, including me, who has never heard of it?
Arnav: Well UGC applications come around a few times every year, selecting a number of extremely talented modelers who Roblox thinks are ready enough to upload items on the catalog for players to buy. This brings numerous modelers out there who have dreamt of being on the catalog. I am saddened to hear about all the rejection mails, but at the same time the joy of the accepted ones is just amazing to cherish. With this in mind, I have invited a few applicants who are still awaiting this year’s results to talk about their journey and how “hard” it really is.
Animal: Do you have any specific favorite UGC items?
Arnav: Out of respect for so many amazing items and their creators out there, I don’t really have a “favorite” one. But I do have some creators in mind who have been really active on the platform and their creations are mind blowing!
Animal: Any creators you want to shout out for their amazing creations?
Arnav: Yep! These would be - Inkwaves, RoWithJason and Beeism.
Animal: So to development, do you have any favorite places that you did not contribute to?
Arnav: As in my fav ones to visit and have a good time, it would be Bedwars or Jailbreak! Another interesting fact about this is it was the primary builder of Jailbreak, asimo3089, who inspired me into developing games!
Animal: Asimo is a great developer and a great person to talk to as well. Where do you think you would be right now if you never started up development in 2020?
Arnav: Yep, he really is an amazing guy. I have also read his interview with you! Talking about development, I would probably be working on some irl projects with a few friends. Startups, focusing on more interactive exercises I have been working on. On the priority list, Roblox would definitely be above all. I am glad I chose this path.
Animal: So I guess this will be a multiple part question: What advice would you give people who want to get into development/UGC? And what advice would you give those wanting to pursue event organizer?
Arnav: Talking about development on Roblox and being a part of the UGC family, my advice to everyone is that - It is not easy. Do not start thinking that it can be a child’s play and respect each and every creation out there. Build your respect within the community and manage your time well. Maybe one can create a building which looks amazing, but don't forget there will be someone out there who can maybe create the same, in less time! I have seen a lot of developers who waste their time procrastinating. This is another issue which I would suggest not to follow up if you are attempting to be heard.

In terms of Event Organizing, I would say that the process might seem lengthy and time consuming, but the Roblox staff members are always there to help you out! For me, Matt and Rhyan were amazingly helpful throughout my journey.
Animal: Rhyan is another amazing person, it’s nice the platform has so many people willing to help others & dedicate their time to it. Well Arnav, I wish you the best of luck with your development and event organizing! Hopefully I’ll be able to attend your next event, hopefully it won’t be at 5:30am my time though, haha!
Arnav: He sure is! And thank you so much for having me here, it was an honor to be a part of this. I will make sure my future events are flexible enough for others to be able to attend, haha. All the best for your future as well!
