On April 10th, 2021 I got to chat with Yorick a bit with what he does on Roblox. Hope you enjoy reading!
Animal: Hello Yorick, why don’t we begin with what you do on Roblox?
Yorick: I’m a developer. I specialize myself in building, modeling and GFX. I love what I do, and I’m not planning to stop!
Animal: I know that currently you are running a developer group planned on gathering lots of great developers in many various fields of development, how’s that going?
Yorick: The gathering is going very well, the only problem is the activity. We have those days (Once in a month) where 4+ developers work at the same time, the other days are very calm. Too calm. Lately I’ve been doing things on my own but soon enough more developers will work on it again.
Animal: Sounds cool, what have you previously done that led up to wanting to form a group like that?
Yorick: I didn’t develop for a month or longer, and I just felt like I should do something great, beyond what someone has ever done before on Roblox. It seemed fun as well!
Animal: Do you have any specific GFXs or builds that you care to share?
Yorick: Hmm.. I gotta think about that. I could provide you with some recent creations of mine, and I could send some of my weapons as well!
Animal: They all look great! And I remember you showing me the progress on the one you made me. How long does it usually take to make a GFX?
Yorick: Doesn’t take too long, and also depends on what it has to look like. Let’s take the one I made for you as an example; The piano made it take a bit longer and sometimes I have some issues with the texture which makes it take 10x longer.
Animal: Is this all unpaid work, and if so do you plan on charging people for a GFX?
Yorick: It’s all unpaid work. I make those things for friends etc. I don’t really have any success with commissions but I still feel like making GFX.
Animal: Do you ever plan on expanding out into commissioning for others at a fee?
Yorick: I’m not sure. I’ll probably do that if there’s still some hope left for my group.
Animal: Any advice for any aspiring GFX artists?
Yorick: Hmm, the first thing you should do when you start earning some money is buying a photo editing software like Affinity Photo. It’s a one-time payment. Basically the same as photoshop. Also never be afraid to ask for help!
Animal: Rapid questions time (it’s what keeps this blog up) what is your favorite material on Roblox?
Yorick: No idea, but recently I started experimenting with a mixture of metal + glass & (material) + forcefield. They should add way more materials though.
Animal: If a tree falls in a forest and no one’s around to hear it, does it make a sound?
Yorick: I suppose it does, everything makes a sound when it falls right? How little the sound is, it’s still there. If someone was there they would’ve heard it.
Animal: You would rather 1v1 a snake or a beaver?
Yorick: A beaver.
Animal: w0uld u dn8 pl0x i needs sme bloxy col@
Yorick: 1 b0bux
Animal: Any last words of advice or encouragement for people who want to become big/better with their own GFX works?
Yorick: Don’t only work for money, because you can’t improve if you don’t have any customers. You can in fact improve when you experiment with lighting, etc. Let’s just say it like this; Not everything needs to be done for money!
Animal: Well thank you very much for your time with the interview, Yorick! Take care!
Yorick: You as well, see ya!
